First Love
It’s just so cute sometimes watching the neighbor’s great-grandson whenever he sees my daughter. He is so completely besotted by her.
But one of the first times they played together ended quite memorably. At a year apart in age (he was 5, she was 4 at the time), they had very different play styles and he had some trouble understanding that girls don’t play quite so roughly as boys much of the time. But they mostly played well together.
Then came time for us to go home. He looks at my daughter and tells her that the next time he sees her, she needs to be wearing a dress. Good thing he’s so young, or that comment would worry me. It was pretty firmly stated.
He has continued to be just fascinated with her over the past year, even though they very rarely see each other, as they attend different schools. He saw her again last night, and it was clear the interest was as strong as ever.
